D1 New Zealand round 2 report Jake Jones

Well the second round of D1 New Zealand has been run and won and sadly for Jake and the team it was not to be. With the new GT35R turbo fitted and set up to run on the lean mean E85 fuel, the Onevia produced an amazing 475rwkw on the Spec Performance dyno before lowering the boost pressure to achieve just under 450rwkw. Whilst this may seem excessive it is the sort of power the big guys run over in NZ with big flowing tracks to suit.

Jake Jones D1 New Zealand Round 2 Manfield

This weekend we will be travelling with Jake Jones for round 2 of D1 New Zealand.

After some mechanical issues in the first round and a misunderstanding of the NZ rules that caused Jake to miss the top 16, he is confident he will back in the groove for round two in the Hi Octane Direct backed Onevia. And just to be sure the RB26 has been upgraded to run on E85 fuel, fitted with a larger GT35 turbocharger, a Ross race series balancer and a Haltech Platinum ECU and is now packing a much bigger punch thanks to Jon and the guys at Spec Performance in Christchurch. Coming away from the first round it was clearly apparent that these New Zealand cars all pack a much bigger punch than what we are used to seeing in Australia and with some seriously fast flowing tracks on the North Island in the latter half of the championship it was clear that the only way to keep up with these Kiwi cars was with more horsepower and the power figure is now a lot closer to 400rwkw is needed to compete at the pointy end.
